The Practical Uses of Funeral Urns

Death is something that everyone is feared. Undergoing this process is difficult and painful. For others burying the dead body is an extra burden and expense to those who lose their loved ones. Cremation is an option that others would rather choose because this is not only cheap but this allows the family to keep and store the urn in a container. Funeral urns are now used to keep the remains of the dead people safe.

Where the Urn Started?


The urn is a vase that is a narrowed neck shape above the footed pedestal. This is normally placed in a dining room way back in 1760’s. It greatly improved over the decades and even used for display not only for dining rooms. Today the urns are now covered with decorative wood, pottery, metal and other furnished. Since then, funerary urns have been used by different civilizations. Traditions are passed from different generations where the dead body of a person is cremated and the ashes are collected inside the urn. Pottery urns are found in China which aged way back in 7000 BC and comes in various designs.  Way back before the urns are used for burying dead children and storing oil for funeral rituals.
